Pinehurst Resort will be the host hotel as well as staging the convention for NAC 2016. Known as the home of golf in America, Pinehurst was the brain child of Boston Philanthropist James Walker Tufts in 1895. His vision was a health retreat for middle-class Americans to recuperate from the ailments of the time.
Three years later the game of golf was introduced in 1898 following some hotel guests being seen in the dairy cattle grazing fields, hitting little white balls that disturbed the herd. Tufts then hired Dr. D. Leroy Culver of New York to design and build a golf course in Pinehurst, and in February of 1898 a rudimentary nine-hole course was constructed.
In 1900, Tufts hired Donald J. Ross, a young Scottish golf professional, to direct golf operations at Pinehurst. Ross redesigned Pinehurst No. 1 and then went on to build Pinehurst No. 2, No. 3, No. 4. By 1903, Pinehurst was becoming a major focus for golf in the U.S. Now the resort boosts 9 courses and has held more major championships than any other USA Golf course. In 2014, Pinehurst hosted both the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships in back-to-back weeks, marking the first time in history both tournaments were played in the same year, on the same course.
In 2024, Pinehurst will hold its 4th US Open an achievement that mirrors the quality of the golf and the resort.
The resort has 4 different accommodation options: The Carolina Hotel, Carolina Villas, The Holly Inn and The Manor House. NAC delegates will not be using The Manor House but will be able to savour the southern splendour of The Carolina Hotel, the unique Holly Inn or enjoy the Carolina Villas, which feature spacious guest rooms with a connecting parlour.
Other than golf, the opportunities for play at Pinehurst are endless. The resort features 24 tennis courts, a 200-acre lake, croquet and lawn bowl courts, a putting course and as a guest of Pinehurst, you are invited to experience an Acura vehicle first hand, compliments of the Acura Guest Drive program. You can reserve the Acura of your choice for up to 3 hours.
Pinehurst Resort looks forward to welcoming all the NAC delegates to Pinehurst Village, North Carolina.
