Director of Golf Jonathan Menteath says while the Peter Matkovich-designed Arabella Golf Course offers a beautiful and challenging round of golf, Holes 3 to 5 have always given players a particularly hard run for their money, “They’re tough holes; the 3rd is a stroke 1 Par 4, the 4th a stroke 5 Par 4 and the 5th a stroke 17 Par 3. Not too many players get through all three on or under Par, which is why we have formalised the Arabella Turn and created a great incentive for players.”
Menteath says any golfer who completes the Arabella Turn on or under Par will receive a complimentary voucher from the Pro Shop for another round of golf.
“Taming the Arabella Turn is such an amazing feat that we’ll also be publishing vanquishers’ names in the Club’s weekly newsletter,” Menteath says.
The 18 hole, Par 72 Peter Matkovich Championship Arabella Golf Course has earned respect from the world’s finest golfers and has consistently been ranked as one of the top courses in South Africa. The 8th hole has been described as one of the most beautiful par 5s in the country, and the 18th has been rated one of the finest finishing holes.
The Arabella Hotel & Spa is one of only a handful of 5-star resorts in South Africa where golfers can literally roll out of their rooms onto a Top 5 golf course. The clubhouse is part of the hotel, and the 1st tee box is barely 50metres away.
