Kenya Tourist Board Promotes Kenya Golf Trophy at Royal Nairobi Golf Club Night on 22 November 2012

Kenya’s image as a golfing destination is set to be propelled further as the country prepares to host the largest international amateur golf tournament ever held in Kenya on 7 December 2012 at the Home of Golf in East Africa, Muthaiga Golf Club.

The event is being promoted in 22 countries worldwide, including China, India, Singapore, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary and South Africa amongst many other countries.

It will be the largest international amateur golf tournament, with prizes worth US $ 50.000 (Ksh 4 million) and is promoted by Tobs Kenya Golf Safaris, Travel and Events. Tobs started promoting Kenya’s 40 golf courses 21 years ago with the vision of putting Kenya on the world map as a superb Golf Tourism Destination.

This culminated in Kenya winning IAGTO’s prestigious award for the Best Undiscovered Golf Destination in the world for the year 2009.

2 weeks ago Kenya was again very well represented in Villamoura in the Algarve, Portugal at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM). The Kenya Tourist Board has been exhibiting at this most important golf trade show in the golf calendar for the 14th time, since its inception in 1998, committed to promote Kenya as a Golf Destination.

The Kenya Golf Trophy is being promoted by the Kenya Tourist Board at club nights at Royal Nairobi Golf Club and Limuru Country Club on 22nd and 28th November 2012 respectively. Etihad Airways is a co-sponsor and will present an airline ticket as the main prize for the winners at these 2 club nights.

Thanks to the 22 sponsors, the Kenya Golf Trophy will be the largest international amateur golf event ever held in Kenya with US $ 50.000 - Kenya Shillings 4 million- worth of travel prizes for winners.

Albatross sponsor Heineken, Official Airline Etihad Airways, Eagle Sponsor Crown Berger, Birdie Sponsor Uchumi, Par Sponsors Kenya Tourism Board, Safari Park Hotel, Serena Hotels, Multichoice and Adsite, while St. Regis Hotel Abu Dhabi, Pash India, World Golfers Championship Singapore, Time4Golf from The Netherlands, Heritage Hotels, Tamarind Group, Sankara Hotel, Panari Hotel, Tribe Hotel, Jacaranda Hotel, Fairmont hotels, Sarova Hotels, Safarilink and WASP Africa are bogey sponsors donating very generous prizes for winners during the tournament.

In addition Senaca Security, Brancom and Wines of the World sponsor security, branding and wines respectively during the tournament.

The main prizes will range from 2 Etihad Business Class tickets to any Etihad Destination in the world, one week participation for 2 at the Taj Mahal Trophy in New Delhi, 2 nights in the 5 star St. Regis Hotel and 2 rounds of golf for two in Abu Dhabi, while Heritage Hotels offers 2 nights for two in all of their 7 properties, Fairmont Hotels offers 2 nights for two at Mara Safari Club & Fairmont Zimbali with a round of golf for two at Tom Weisskoff Designed Golf Course at Zimbali Country Club, Sarova hotels offers 2 nights for two at Taita Hills Lodge, Safarilink offers 2 air tickets to the Masai Mara, Samburu and Lamu respectively. Panari Hotel, Sankara Hotel and Tribe Hotel donate a stay in their suites in their 5 star hotels.

The event will be in support of the Rose Naliaka Golf Foundation, whose objective it is to promote golf to all while teaching golf to underprivileged girls.

On 7 December this event will have participation from sponsor’s guests, overseas visitors and is open for Kenya Golfers. For Ksh 10,000/- per golfer, the Kenya Golfers will experience an action packed day.

A hole in one shoot out over Muthaiga’s floodlit lake of hole 13 - courtesy of Adsite - will be exciting to play and watch, as the stakes are very high: a 3 day VVIP Package for 2 in Singapore watching the Formula 1 and a 5 day stay including Golf in Bintan Island, Indonesia worth Ksh 700.000/-.

Multichoice will auction a selection of equipment with the proceeds going to Rose Naliaka Golf Foundation.

The starlight prize giving dance gala with DJ Terry Perera will close the Kenya Golf Trophy with Heineken Beer, Wines of The World and will be a fun event for all participants and their partners.
