The 4th Kauko Cup was played at Korineum on Sunday 18th April.
This Annual Tournament is one of the most important in the history of the Club as Kauko Rastas a Finnish businessman who was a good friend of the President of the club Dr Gunay Çerkez had the initial vision and inspiration for the golf course in Northern Cyprus.
The development of Korineum Golf & Country Club was carried out by Dr Gunay Çerkez and the grand opening was held on 7th April 2007. Unfortunately Kauko Rastas passed away only a few weeks before this highly prestigious opening ceremony.
As celebration of his life and vision and in order to respect his memory it was decided to organize an annual Tournament named Kauko Cup. Every April sees the club hosting not only the Rastas family but increasing numbers of Finnish and Scandinavian golfers. They join with the members to play the Tournament that is held as a remembrance to Kauko Rastas’ long awaited dream in the making of Korineum Golf & Country Club into what it is today.
During the cocktails for the Prize Giving which took place in the Clubbers Lounge there was a lot to celebrate. The Korineum course record off the yellow tees was broken by Jonas Johnsson (Sweden) playing an outstanding round of 69. Josephine Black who was the first Lady Captain at the club had a fantastic round to take the Kauko Cup and Ritta Resch Ambassador of Finland aptly won Best Lady.
Celebrations besides the golf continued with toasting the birth of the General Manager’s (Umut Gürtunç) first child and the club Captain’s (Colin Herbert) birthday.
On the lawn outside another happy couple were getting married and enjoying their most memorable day at Korineum!
