Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club’s West Course Voted ‘Best Course in Malaysia’

Kuala Lumpur, 22 January 2013 - Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) was recently named the winner of ‘Best Course in Malaysia’ for its championship West Course and the first runner-up for ‘Best Clubhouse in Asia Pacific’ by 2012 Asian Golf Monthly Awards.

The West Course is celebrated for its pristine playing conditions with exceptional attention to detail. The demanding and challenging layout truly demands the importance of player strategy. The course is the home of the internationally-renowned Maybank Malaysian Open for four consecutive years that has attracted some of the world best players such as Martin Kaymer, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Rory McIlroy, Alvaro Quiros, Thongchai Jaidee and Matteo Manassero.

Into its 13th year, the Asian Golf Monthly Awards are widely regarded as the region’s premier annual poll of golfing establishments in the Asia Pacific with votes being cast in a total of 28 categories. This is the second year running for KLGCC to have clinched the ‘Best Course in Malaysia’ award for its West Course. In past years, results were based upon on-line votes of readers and subscribers of Asian Golf Monthly, which is the only global golfing title with an Asian perspective. This year, a 24-strong panel of industry stalwarts around the region with a vast knowledge of the golfing facilities within their respective geographic areas contributed. Their combined input accounted for 50 per cent of the overall voting.

Some of the recipients of regional awards at Asia Pacific level included Mission Hills Haikou, China for Best Golf Resort, The Club at Nine Bridges, Korea for Best Course, Banyan Golf Club for Best Clubhouse, Shanqin Bay Golf Course, China for Best New Course, Schimdt-Curly Design for Best Golf Course Architect, Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort, Thailand for Best Value for Money Experience, Senayan National Golf Course, Indonesia for Best Course Renovation and Mission Hills Shenzhen, China for Best Pro Shop. Thailand emerged as the Best Golf Destination in Asia Pacific followed by Indonesia and China.

Originally opened in 1991, the KLGCC is one of Sime Darby Property’s leading leisure centres under its hospitality arm. Both the West and East Courses were completely redesigned by renowned international golf course architects, E & G Parslow, and then re-opened in 2008 and 2010 respectively. The high quality of construction is synonymous with Sime Darby and incorporates state-of-the art technologies and impressive attention to detail. Since then, KLGCC has redefined superior service and excellence; its facilities and hospitality have helped put Malaysia at the forefront of Asia as a prime golfing destination.
