Visitors enjoying golf breaks along Mediterranean coast invited to experience bedazzling sights and sounds of traditional International Fireworks Competition from July 22-27, 2011
(Girona, Spain - July 13, 2011) Golfers visiting Costa Brava in July can join Catalonians in revelling in the breathtaking experience of one of the world’s most prestigious and spectacular events, the 41st Prize ‘Trofeu Vila de Blanes’ Costa Brava International Fireworks Competition, is held from July 22-27.
The night skies above Costa Brava will dazzle to all the colours of the rainbow, and resonate to all manner of explosive crackerjack sounds, when one of the region’s most traditional and show-stopping events, the annual fireworks festival.
The six showing-stopping pyrotechnics extravaganzas will be hosted by the small Mediterranean coastal town of Blanes with the first rocket being fired skywards from a specially created 4,000-square metre platform anchored off Sa Palomera – a rocky headland at the gateway to Costa Brava – at 11pm each evening.
Visitors at the time of the fireworks fiesta can combine the fun-filled festivities with a round of golf at one of the many exceptional courses in Costa Brava that borders the shimmering Mediterranean coastline.
Among them are PGA Golf Catalunya Resort, ranked a World Top 100 Course and a Spanish Open venue; Golf Girona with its wonderfully maintained layout; Club de Golf Costa Brava, one of the region’s oldest golf courses; Torremirona Golf Club that enjoys wonderful views over the Pyrenees; Emporda Golf with 36 holes set in beautiful parkland; Club de Golf Peralada whose course presents a good test for players of all standards; Golf Serres de Pals, located in the heart of the Empordà area; Golf Platja de Pals, a British design on the seafront; for those looking for a quick round, the Gualta par-3 course is ideal.

It is expected that one million tourists from all over the world and local residents will enjoy the long-standing and popular festival - an established part of Costa Brava’s heritage since 1970 - with around 150,000 viewers per day and almost half a million over the weekend alone lining the beach and moored out at sea!
Each evening’s entertainment will be arranged by a different company - drawn from across the world - and the display judged the best, following votes from a selected jury and spectators, will win the coveted Costa Brava International Fireworks Competition and Vila de Blanes Trophy along with a top prize of €8,000.
The quality of each show will be judged around several criteria, including colour, rhythm, originality, noise and the level of crowd approval.
Located an hour north of Barcelona and easily accessible thanks to Girona-Costa Brava Airport - an important Ryanair hub - the region is home to many prestigious golf resorts and other attractions, Michelin-starred restaurants and a wide range of comfortable accommodation.
