Hellidon Lakes Golf & Spa Hotel will take a step back in time when the popular Northamptonshire resort celebrates its 25th anniversary at the end of next month.
Peter Boswell and Richard Wood were part of the first fourball to play at the Daventry venue when it opened in 1990, and the founder members will again be on hand to tee off in the opening group when the resort – part of QHotels, the UK’s largest golf resort operator – commemorates its landmark date with a fundraising golf day on Friday, July 31.
Many familiar faces from Hellidon Lakes’ history including a number of past presidents, captains and members are set to join the current membership who will gather at the venue to celebrate the sell-out occasion, which will be in aid of 2015 club captain Steve Trotman’s nominated charity, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
Trotman said: “The day is set to be a sell-out and it will be great to welcome back so many well-known faces to the club for the biggest event of the year in our golfing calendar. Hellidon Lakes has come a long way and enjoyed many memorable moments since opening and we’re looking forward to launching the second 25 years in style at the end of next month.”
Designed by four-time Midlands professional champion David Snell, Hellidon Lakes was officially opened by Manchester United and England football legend Sir Bobby Charlton. The picturesque resort, which nestles in 220 acres of private grounds, is part of the multi-award-winning, four and five-star QHotels golf collection, which offers championship-standard courses in unique resort locations at 11 outstanding venues across England and Scotland.
Hellidon Lakes’ championship course offers challenges aplenty for golfers of all abilities. Many of the 27 holes feature water hazards, albeit with a choice of challenging carries over, or safer routes around, the numerous lakes. For example, the par-five 12th requires two long shots over the water and can end in triumph or disaster, whereas three shots along the zig-zag route can yield a solid par.
