Re-opening of Relais Monforte & Golf Club Delle Langhe

29 October 2008

In an area renowned for its truffles and fine wines, an hour south of Turin and with the city of Alba close by, the architect Graham Cooke has created this little gem amongst the vineyards, in charming natural surroundings.

The nine-hole golf course, PAR 31, unwinds through vineyards and both new players and more experienced ones will find the course challenging. Greens are quick and golfers who want to finish within the course PAR need to be focused and measure their strikes. The course is hilly and the slopes between tees and greens create quite a scenic effect.

The golf course has recently re-opened after having gone under major improvement works: greens and fairways have been replanted using eco-friendly techniques in order to achieve the best result with hardly any impact on the environment. The project is being followed by the University of Milan, which has already successfully experimented this type of intervention in other golf courses producing and maintaining a lawn in perfect conditions without altering in any way the soil.

The Pro-Am played last Monday, October 27, featuring amongst the professionals Costantino Rocca, has been extremely successful. Golf members and visitors who knew the course before have highly spoken of all the improvements made on it and how much more pleasant and challenging the course has become.

The restyling of the golf course has been the first step of a bigger projects which included the opening of a 37 room boutique hotel next spring with a gastronomical restaurant and a spa.
