Summer 2010 marks the first ‘Hole in One’ at the impressive new 18 hole Bainbridge Golf Course at Heythrop Park. Nigel Barker a PGA Professional, attached to Heathfield Golf Centre, successfully holed his tee shot on the 9th Hole (par 3). Nigel was enjoying his first round at Heythrop Park and was thrilled about being the first to achieve this feat.
Nigel plays in regular PGA tournaments, mainly in the BB&O area. Nigel started his golf at Trentham Golf Club in Staffordshire and was taught by Martin Hall, who is now in the top 50 coaches in the USA. Nigel turned Professional at Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club under the guidance of Ian Read. He then moved to Oxfordshire 8 years ago as the teaching pro at Hinksey Heights, Abingdon Golf Store, Delapre in Northampton, and the last 4 years at Heathfield Golf Centre.
“What a superb course, every hole is different - there are some great driving holes, lovely rolling fairways and well positioned bunkers. I really enjoyed putting on the greens as they were extremely smooth and beautifully contoured – challenging but very fair”.
The 72 par course has been designed by renowned architects, Mackenzie and Ebert and incorporates many of the original elements and planting of the estate. The course is a fantastic addition to the Heythrop Park Resort which currently consists of the original Estate House (17 stately rooms), 3* hotel and conference centre, Club House, Health Club, 2 restaurants. October 2010 will see the opening of the contemporary 4* Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park – Oxford with 197 contemporary and stylish bedrooms, a unique conference auditorium with capacity for 350 delegates as well as nine new meeting rooms including the Ballroom which can take up to 350 guests for a banquet making it one of the largest and most exciting hotel and golf developments in the UK market.
