European Tour School Returns to Dundonald Links

Dundonald Links will host the European Tour School First Qualifying Stage next week for the fourth year in-a-row, from September 12-16, 2011.

The renowned Ayrshire links, which is the sister course of Loch Lomond, became the first Scottish course to be used as a venue for a European Tour Qualifying School event when it hosted one of the six Stage 1 qualifying tournaments in 2007.

Twenty five Scottish PGA Professionals will participate, including: Dundonald Links PGA Professional, Iain Colquhoun; local Ayrshire Professionals Graeme Fox and Ross Dickson; Paul O’Hara (younger brother of European Tour player Steven O’Hara); and leading Tartan Tour Player, Paul McKechnie. The Scottish Professionals will play alongside 2010 Amateur Champion, Jin Jeong, for a highly sought after ticket.

Mike Stewart, European Tour Qualifying School Director, commented: “Despite having only opened eight years ago, Dundonald Links has in that short time already established a reputation as one of Scotland’s finest courses. The warm welcome we receive and the pristine condition of the course combine to make our annual visits to Dundonald Links for the Qualifying School a memorable experience.”

The European Tour Qualifying School has a long history of producing some of the finest talents in the game. Comprising two initial pre-qualifying stages, held at a number of venues throughout Europe, followed by a rigorous six-round Final Qualifying. Competitors are thoroughly tested on all aspects of the game that are required to make it onto The European Tour.

“We are proud to welcome back this most prestigious event for the fourth consecutive year, and I’m confident that Dundonald Links will provide a true test of golf to all the competitors looking to make their way on to The European Tour,” said Guy Redford, Director of Golf, Dundonald Links.

Dundonald Links, situated near the legendary golfing town of Troon is a classic and challenging links style golf course, designed by revered architect Kyle Phillips. The Club has recently launched a new website www.dundonaldlinks.com and visitors can, for the first time, reserve tee times via an online booking engine.
