A very unusual cancer-fighting awareness and fundraising event – and an even stranger golf story – will take place in the west of Ireland on September 2nd.

Led by four-time head & neck cancer survivor Nick Edmund, an adventurous group including representatives from golf clubs across Ireland will carry their clubs to the top of Croagh Patrick mountain near Westport in County Mayo. At the summit, everyone will participate in the unfurling of a giant Global Golf4 Cancer ‘4-Flag’ – a symbolic flag that typically flies on special occasions on 4thholes at golf courses and events throughout the world.

Why Croagh Patrick?
As Nick explains: “Our flag is normally seen on a 4th green somewhere – flying in honour of anyone battling cancer and signalling golf’s support for all the wonderful organisations that are fighting cancer in all its forms. So trekking up the side of a holy mountain with a set of golf clubs to raise a giant version of our flag might seem a rather strange thing to do; however, Croagh Patrick is an incredibly storied as well as spiritual mountain, and our intention is to convey a visually powerful cancer-fighting message: the journey ahead is often very challenging … but the golfing community wants to support you every step of the way.”
