The emirate of Dubai recognised as the 2017 ‘Golf Destination of the Year – Africa, the Gulf States & Indian Ocean’ by IAGTO.
[Dubai, UAE – 12 December 2017] – Dubai has been awarded the ‘2017 Golf Destination of the Year for Africa, the Gulf States & Indian Ocean’ by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) – the global trade association of the golf tourism industry.
The announcement was made as the 20th annual International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) got under way in Cannes, France – and the award was collected by representatives of Dubai’s 11 premium golf courses in attendance.
Dubai is one of the most esteemed golf locations in the world. As the home of three flagship professional tournaments – the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, the season-ending tournament of the Race to Dubai, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and Omega Dubai Ladies Classic – Dubai has a rich history as a stage for the world’s greatest players to shine.
Commenting on the award, Christian Roemer, Golf Tourism Manager at Falcon Golf – an entity established in 2016 to optimise the benefits golf brings to Dubai – said: “Given the standing of IAGTO and its truly global membership base, winning this award is a significant moment for Dubai’s golf industry. It also indicates that the emirate’s golf tourism strategy is working and that the recent launch of www.golfindubai.com is making a real impact.”
“With Dubai’s existing world-class facilities and courses, coupled with the new courses coming online imminently, there is a clear opportunity ahead of us to bring greater golf tourism to Dubai and we look forward to continuing our work alongside IAGTO,” he added.
The announcement follows the unveiling of a new website to enhance awareness of the worldleading, premium golf destination that convenes – for the first time in one place – everything visitors and tour operators need to know about experiencing golf in Dubai.
Launched at the Asia Golf Tourism Convention (AGTC) in May this year, www.golfindubai.com provides information on the first-class courses designed by legends including Ernie Els, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie and Greg Norman, as well as details on leisure and practice facilities and wider hospitality offers.

About the IAGTO Awards

IAGTO’s over 600 golf tour operators from 62 different countries cast their votes for these Awards. Each operator was asked to nominate what they considered to be the best performing golf destinations this year enjoyed by their golf travelling clients.
The golf destination in each of the five regions with most votes receives the 2017 Golf Destination of the Year accolade. Operators were asked to consider the following criteria: customer satisfaction, quality of golf courses & accommodation, value for money, professional conduct of suppliers, support from the local tourism industry and accessibility to tee times.
