Chiang Mai wins IAGTO Award as Asia & Australasia Golf Destination of the Year for 2017

Thailand’s northern capital of Chiang Mai has won the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) Award 2017 as the Golf Destination of Year - Asia & Australia. The Award will be conferred at the IAGTO Awards 2017 Gala Dinner on 17 November, 2016, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

This award, again, reflects the reputation of Thailand as a potential golf destination after the Banyan Tree Resort Hua Hin won the IAGTO Golf Resort of the Year Award in the Rest of the World category in 2016.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, commented “We are very pleased to see Chiang Mai earning such accolades which go a long way towards upgrading the standards of service and professionalism. I compliment all the owners and operators of the golf courses in Chiang Mai and indeed all over Thailand for their hard work and dedication.”

Known as the Rose of the North, Chiang Mai is the economic, communications, cultural and tourism centre of Northern Thailand. In recent years, it has undergone considerable economic development but still retains its historic heritage.

The recent opening of a number of fabulous golf courses has made Chiang Mai a very popular golfing destination, a place for the whole family to enjoy. It boasts excellent weather, superb value for experience prices and unmatched service levels. Most golf clubs are located less than 1 hour away from the city, and the landscapes are very beautiful.

Mr. Yuthasak added that “Modern golfers can enjoy some of the best courses in Chiang Mai with state-of-the-art facilities. And in the evening, they can explore the city’s wonderful restaurants, spas, markets and atmosphere; it’s little wonder that this is a cultural and golfing paradise.“

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) was established in 1997 to represent the interests of golf businesses and now comprises 2,492 accredited golf tour operators, golf resorts and hotels, airlines, tourism boards and business partners in 96 nations. 647 of these are specialist golf tour operators located in 61 countries.
