Orange Title Sponsor
Integrated telecommunications solutions provider Orange is the new title sponsor for the third edition of the Kenya Golf Trophy (KGT).

Announcing the KSh 6 million sponsorship for the October 10, 2014 tournament at the Muthaiga Golf Club and its 2 qualifiers, company CEO Mickael Ghossein says that Orange will be maintaining a strategic presence in sports in Kenya.

“Orange already has a very firm presence in the country’s and continent’s hockey scene through the Orange Ladies Hockey Team that has held an iron grip of the National Hockey League Women’s title for the last 16 years.” Orange has also been at the forefront of highlighting and supporting other sporting talent in Kenya. Most recently was its association with Kenya’s feted Javelin athlete, Julius Yego, who is now the pride of the country having won the its first field gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.  “We therefore see our association with Golf as yet another strategic avenue to affirm our presence in sports and grow Golf, especially among the young and upcoming players in the country,” Mr. Ghossein adds.

Supporting Junior Golf Foundation

Launched three years ago, by Tobs Kenya Golf Safaris, Travel & Events, the Kenya Golf Trophy continues its support to the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF).

The proceeds of a hole-in-one shoot-out over the lake on the thirteenth hole and proceeds from an auction for holiday vouchers will benefit the JGF in its quest to develop golf amongst Kenyans junior players.

The four best junior golf players in the order of merit are invited to compete for the many prizes. Last year, at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, all 4 juniors managed to win a prize in this stableford tournament, even without a special category for junior winners.

“The development of young golfing talent is paramount if we are to see a Kenyan on the leader board of one of the major PGA tours,” says Mr. Tobs Cohen, the event organiser.

Recently Tobs Ltd. was officially accredited by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) to run and manage Golf Events.  Tobs is proud to be associated with the KGU and the comment of KGU Chairman, Mr. Peter Warui to cooperate with Tobs and take the Game of Golf in Kenya to another level is flattering for this specialised golf company which was established 23 years ago.

Huge Sponsorship – A Branding and Networking Event
The Orange Kenya Golf Trophy is a major networking and branding golf event, giving C.E.O.’s of major companies from a wide variety of industries the opportunity to play their favourite game and network with their colleagues and their invited guests.

For sponsors the Kenya Golf Trophy is a unique branding opportunity as well, as sponsors can display their products and services to a very high profile audience through activations and promotions in the tented village and on the course.

Apart from Orange and Etihad Airways, another major sponsor for the second year running, is NAS Cuisine, which will cater delicious breakfast for 100, lunch for 200 and dinner for 300 golfers and their guests. Other major sponsors include Nation Newspaper, Mercedes Benz, Heineken, Philips, Coca Cola, AIG, Crown Paints, Kingsway Tyres and JCB among many others. Enaai Lolldaiga will be the exclusive Golf Property Development Company as Birdie Sponsor, while Mugie will promote its new golf course and boutique hotel within its 49.000 acre wild life conservation area in Laikipia as Par Sponsor.

Tobs says: “It is far beyond our expectations how this event has attracted so many sponsors and so much interest in Kenya and around the world. How this annual event has become the most important amateur golf event on the Kenya Golf Calendar in such a short time is truly amazing! Without so many generous sponsorships, this would not have been possible”

Amazing Prizes & Chrystal Trophies
The prizes for winners are many and amazing:
The name of the winner will be engraved on the prestigious floating  Chrystal Kenya Golf Trophy, while the winner and runner-up will take home a smaller crystal trophy as a souvenir in addition to 2 Etihad Airways tickets each to any Etihad destination in the world!

The 3rd price is a one week stay for 2 at the Tamarina Boutique Hotel and Golf Resort in Mauritius including 5 rounds of golf at the 18 hole Tamarina Golf Club. Another exciting prize is from the world’s largest golf club: Mission Hills Golf Resort in Shenzhen, China. Mission Hills has 12 signature 18 hole golf courses and is the only golf club in the Guinness Book of Records.  Mission Hills donated 2 nights’ accommodation and 2 rounds of golf as one of the more than 20 prizes.

Heritage Hotels is again among many other hotels and restaurants loyally sponsoring 6 prizes:  2 nights for 2 at six of its safari and beach properties, including Great Rift Valley Golf Resort. Many hotels and restaurants will promote their high quality establishments to these high profile players by donating vouchers and through activations and promotions in the tented village and on the course.

Golf Tourism
The Kenya Golf Trophy also takes up the gauntlet as yet another avenue to promote Kenya’s profile as a superb golf destination. The Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) has been a loyal sponsor from the first year, clearly a sign the Kenya Government sees the huge potential Golf Tourism has for Kenya. International golfers from Africa and around the world are invited for a 4 day and 1 week program and sample Sigona, Limuru and Royal Nairobi Golf Clubs, while staying in the 2 Official Kenya Golf Trophy Hotels, Jacaranda and Tribe.

Local Golfers
Those who have finished as winners and runner-ups from two qualifying rounds sponsored by Orange at a club night at Muthaiga Golf Club held the 6th of August and at the Orange Golf Day at Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Saturday the 30th of August respectively are automatically invited. The winner of last year’s Kenya Golf Trophy, held at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Humphrey Maina of Kiambu Golf Club is coming to defend his Title.

While the sponsors and their guests form the larger part of players, there are 50 slots available for local players who want to enjoy this very high profile event. The price of Ksh 10.000/- includes competing for one of the many prizes, enjoy delicious sponsored food and (alcoholic) drinks and invite a guest for the prize giving dance party, which lasts until the early hours of the next day!
