La Manga Club retains place among world's top five golf resort

La Manga Club’s reputation for delivering a memorable five-star golfing experience has received further recognition after being voted among the world’s top five golf resorts by one of the UK’s most prestigious travel awards for the third year running.

The multi award-winning luxury resort was the only destination in continental Europe to be nominated alongside some of the game’s most famous names in the ‘Best Golf Resort in the World’ category at the 2016 Ultras Awards, which were announced at the Savoy Hotel in London last week.

Exclusive American venues Pebble Beach and Bandon Dunes, St Andrews – the ‘Home of Golf’ – and eventual winners The Gleneagles Hotel joined La Manga Club in the select group to receive acclaim at the awards, which are voted for across 20 categories by readers of Ultratravel, the Telegraph’s luxury travel magazine, and telegraph.co.uk

The new accolade caps a memorable last six months for La Manga Club, which has included being named as Spain’s best golf hotel at the World Golf Awards for the second year running and being voted as the best golf resort in Spain by Today’s Golfer readers for the fifth successive year, and is added recognition for the significant recent investment it has made in its golf and leisure facilities.

José Asenjo, La Manga Club’s general manager, said: “The name of La Manga Club is synonymous with golfers around the world. To have received this prestigious accolade for a third year in a row makes us all very proud and is a further illustration of the resort’s appeal and our success in providing the best possible experience to our customers.“

Set across an area of 1,400 acres in Murcia, south-east Spain, La Manga Club is widely recognised as the country’s flagship resort and has been at the forefront of sports and leisure destinations across Europe and beyond since opening in 1972.

A five-time host of the Spanish Open, the resort features three 18-hole courses, a nine-hole academy course and a recently-opened Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one in mainland Spain – among its array of five-star sports and leisure facilities.

As well as golf, La Manga Club – the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association – also boasts a 28-court tennis academy, a new High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex, a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
