Morocco Receives a World Golf Distinction at the IGTM

Morocco was announced winner of the prestigious award Golf Destination of the Year 2010 on Thursday granted by The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) on the 19th of November 2009 at the Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner organized during the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) held in Malaga.

Speaking from Rabat, the CEO of the Moroccan National Tourist Office Mr. Hamid Addou said “We can only express our greatest satisfaction vis-a-vis the rewarding partnership between the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO) and the IAGTO, which proved to be a catalyst in fostering and strengthening the private sector’s role played to further value the Moroccan Golfing offer”.

Peter Walton, President and Chief Executive of IAGTO said: “I am delighted that Morocco has won this Award because it has always been one of my favourite golf destinations. Morocco is unique in that you can literally tour the entire country and play great golf in each of its fascinating cities as well as opting for golf in its beach resorts”. Peter Walton continues “The operators who have voted for Morocco have recognised the great strides that it has made over the past couple of years with new golf resorts and courses opening up each year, by some of the world’s best golf course designers, with more to come. Morocco is within easy reach for most European golfers and offers excellent value and a great experience.”

The award which was handed out to Mr. Essaid Kasmi, Director for the MNTO in Madrid on Thursday night is truthfully a token of recognition by IAGTO’s members of Morocco’s greatest assets as far as golf holidays are concerned. The IAGTO Awards are designed to help distinguish and honour special destinations for their contribution to the international golf travel market and it is voted for by IAGTO Tour Operator members.

To conclude Mr. Addou said ”We’re thrilled to receive such an international distinction which is not only a great boost of confidence at the end of what has been a difficult and challenging year for the travel industry, but this will also steadfastly fuel our determination on building and strengthening our relationships with the travel trade to further promote Morocco’s different golfing regions”. He added “The Moroccan National Tourist Office can not claim this achievement single handed, but there are so many partners out there who are playing an important role and to whom we are very grateful”.
