Golf with a Taste of Colombian Coffee

23 February 2010

Bogotá, February 2010, Colombia has become part of the international golfing world and one of its most interesting contributions is the “Coffee Triangle”, where you can also find the best coffee in the World and another international-quality feature, the traditional coffee-growers´ mansions and high-grade tourist accommodation.

Each of the Provinces in the Triangle offers a unique experience for golf-lovers, allowing them the full play of their imagination, their eyes roaming over one of the marvels of Nature – the broad expanse of the coffee plantations.

Pereira, capital of the Province of Risaralda, is well-known for containing some of the richest biodiversity on this planet. The city itself and the surrounding area have many attractions, and it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in western Colombia.

Any golfer who comes to Pereira cannot fail to enjoy the course at Club Campestre de Pereira, designed by Charles Mark Mahannah and Jaime Sáenz. The course follows the terrain with natural ups and downs and a variety of grass surfaces, which lend a touch of magic to the exotic and beautiful scenery.

The course offers plenty of challenges off the tee and in approaches to the greens.

In Armenia, capital of the Province of Quindío, in the heart of the coffee industry, the course is an unforgettable pleasure- again, the scenery is magnificent; and you can pair up for a game with amateurs or professionals.

Off the course, there are the fine old Spanish-colonial style farm-mansions; and naturally, the hospitality of the people there.

Manizales is a perfect contrast, between the snows of Nevado de Ruiz and the green of the course. There is a remarkable variety of microclimates, for example in comparison with the course at Club Campestre de Armenia: here, the name of the game is accuracy, mastery of the ball and no margin for error. The magic of the mountains follows you round the course, and the game is nothing but tranquillity and pleasure.

The variety of climates, the aroma of coffee in the air and the chance of enjoying the scenery all make the Coffee Triangle a challenge which all golf-lovers need to overcome.
